Learn Basic Abacus Arithmetic quickly

Contents and Overview

Content is taught through interactive video lectures that include digital lecture with animated images and guided exercise problems. This course contains 78 lectures and 7 hours of content. This Abacus course is designed  to be easily understood by absolute beginners and for anyone who wishes to improve their calculation ability or wants to know how to teach.

In this course, you will learn the Abacus Arithmetic, and you'll understand what it is and how to calculate numbers like addition and subtraction on the Abacus.

You'll learn, using the Abacus, how to calculate several numbers in your head and finally, you'll have a remarkable ability in mathematics, concentration and agility moving your fingers on the Abacus.

By the end of this course, you'll have valuable skills that will help you quickly calculate without a calculator through the principle of the Abacus.Even given any calculation problems, once you learn the Abacus, the Abacus is drawn to your head and it is possible to calculate faster. In this course, you'll find that you are able to solve math problems in addition and subtraction in your head and also mental arithmetic skills are improved. If you are interested in how exactly the course works, check out this video!

What you’ll learn?

  • How to place numbers on the Abacus
  • Solve simple addition and subtraction
  • Calculate mixed addition and subtraction
  • Understand friend number of addition for 5
  • Know complementary numbers for 10
  •  Perform a quick bit of mental arithmetic
  • Understand multiplication and division

Are there any course requirements or prerequisites?

  • Know numbers and basic operations like addition and subtraction
  • If you have an abacus, it would be helpful

Who this course is for?

  • Anyone who has no experience about Abacus Arithmetic or is a beginner
  • Anyone who wants to teach

Class 1

The teacher introduces the Abacus tool and explains the importance of the Abacus. She explains how to sit, how to hold the Abacus, pencil and which are the fingers used for the movement of the beads in the Abacus. She also helps to tilt and clear the beads of the Abacus to 0 positions.

The teacher gives Fingering Exercise (F.E) that is +1, -1,+2,_2 etc.

The teacher sets the number on the Display Abacus and asks them the answers individually. And also ask the students to come front and set the numbers on the Display abacus individually.

She gives speed writing .For speed writing she has to set the time limit for one minute in her timer and she says START  so the students has to start writing and when she say STOP they have to stop writing .This improves their speed of writing and concentration. She gives Home Practice(HP) that is  single page they have to practice at their home.

Class 2

First the teacher starts the class with Speed writing (backward and forward) of numbers and simple Oral sums. That is she has to call out the numbers and they have to work on the Abacus and write the answers on their rough book.

She gives fingering exercise in simple addition like 1+1,1+2,1+3 etc..

She sets addition on the display abacus and asks oral questions individually. She asks them to do the addition on the Abacus. She gives HP.

Flash Cards are introduced here to improve their concentration. She will call out the numbers and they have to draw the beads for the numbers.

Class 3

She gives the writing of Random Numbers . She gives addition and subtraction of two digit numbers without any carrying or borrowing.

Class 4

The teacher introduces BIG FRIENDS ..eg. 9-1,8-2,7-3,6-4,5-5,4-6,3-7,2-8,1-9.

She gives basic skill exercises also.

Class 5

Teacher explains how to use big friend formulae whenever direct addition is not possible .

She make students to do addition using BIGFRIEND’s formulae.

Class 6

The teacher gives the  friend’s Speed writing (9182736455) and also basic skill exercises.

She introduces negative big friends . She gives HP.

Class 7

The teacher gives indirect view of  Speed writing

Class 8

The teacher introduces SMALL FRIENDS that is 4-1,3-2,2-3,1-4. She explains how to add and subtract using small friends.

The other basic skill exercises has to be done in each class

Class 9

The teacher introduces addition and subtraction involving both big and small friends (COMBINATION) .

Class 10

The teacher teaches how to add or subtract using Combination formulae whenever direct addition or using big friend or small friend formulae addition  is not  possible. She explains them clearly.

Class 11

Now the students will get thorough with their addition and subtraction. The teacher teaches them how to add or subtract any set of single digit numbers with their Abacus.

Class 12

The teacher has to assess each child and Assessment is to be given for them.

Speed writing can be done in different ways like:

  1. big friend speed writing : 9182736455
  2. small friend speed writing: 4132234155
  3. direct view of writing
  4. indirect view of writing
  5. right hand speed writing
  6. left hand speed writing
  7. tables
  8. random numbers
  9. call out the numbers randomly and students have to write big friends of those numbers
  10.  Random numbers can be single, double digits etc.
